With Earth unknowingly under the threat of impact with a destructive asteroid, the rest of the universe has decided to secretly loot it’s resources before it’s wiped out. Faro and his brothers have been sent on one such mission, looking to mine resources desperately needed by their planet, and they find shelter at an inn nearby the mine—only the pretty innkeeper is proving an unexpected and unwanted distraction. Faro can’t help but feel drawn to Amy, but his many secrets make it difficult to get close to her. Faro was an amusing, sometimes over-the-top alpha character, and I enjoyed his banter with both Amy and his brothers. Lots of interesting characters at play here, and I can’t wait to read their stories. It ends on a bit of a cliff hanger, but the essential question was settled at the end, so that was enough for me. Eager to move on to Faro’s brothers, and I look forward to reading Blaze and Molly’s story, Frost Fire, coming out January 2018!

Reid’s lived under the cloud of his illegitimate birth his whole life, but due to unusual circumstances he became Laird anyway. He feels a need to stabilize his standing by having a legitimate heir of his own, so, the last thing he needs is an arranged marriage with a kidnapped English bride, especially one that is determined to enter the convent to be a scribe. Corinne is blinded by her one track mind in the beginning, but once she comes to terms with her fate, she and Reid are awesome together. They both have demons and insecurities, and they help each other to be stronger. So many great secondary characters! I hope to see more of Reid’s brother, Fillan, in future stories! Great series!

Angie is abducted by aliens and wakes up to being auctioned off to different aliens intent on violating her, but before they get a chance, she is rescued by Arokh, an alien gladiator. I'm usually not much for science fiction, but I loved this story! The characters were awesome! This is definitely the best thing I've read in a long time. Arokh and all the other aliens assume Angie is a Gryfala (a prized, pampered female alien race) causing even more lost in translation problems then they would have had otherwise, but it made everything just that much more interesting. By the end of the story all the aliens were just people to me (a sign of a great story). I am eagerly moving on to Arokh's brother, Zadeon's story (Rescued by an alien), and am looking forward to more stories (especially Crispin, Dohrein and the seeing-eye dog). Great read!

Logan’s been running from his past for years, but rescuing his sister from captivity has given him a reason to turn things around, seek a place in the King’s Bodyguard Corps and fight to keep it, whether he is welcome by the other members or not. And after finding a young woman near death in a snowstorm, he finds he has two women under his protection, his sister Mairin and Helena, an English noblewoman as full of secrets as he is. Helena and Logan help each other to get past their demons and I loved the way they never gave up on each other. I hope to see more of Mairin in future stories, and I can’t wait for Logan’s brother, Reid’s, story! Great series!

Not long after he hears she is engaged to another, so he is less than thrilled when he is sent to escort Anna to her new intended. After a siege gone horribly wrong, Kirk is left with little passion for the cause, so he is surprised when the King picks him for a special undercover assignment, but the deeper he gets into this assignment the more it seems like just another nightmare leaving him in an impossible situation that there seems no way out of, and unfortunately he’s dragging Lillian along with him in this godforsaken quest. Lillian’s soft-spoken intelligence was very easy to relate to and I really admired her strength. Kirk had his demons, but he could never quite eradicate the good in himself, and Lillian’s presence just accentuated that. I can’t wait for Logan’s story! Great series!
