This is a rich, colorful tale that starts with a wonderful  legend. The legend sets you up to meet, Lady Hope Nevilles, the heroine and Leonce MacPherson, the hero. Hope is a self-reliant, spunky woman and Leonce is a strong highland chieftain, the perfect combination for a great highlander romance with plenty of spicy sex scenes and bawdy banter. Hope is looking to escape an abusive father and find a place to belong where she can learn to trust, and when her father steals a Highland Chieftain’s son, she takes it as a sign to go to her mother’s beloved highlands to return the boy and a sword the boy’s father lost years before. Since the battle when the sword was lost, Leonce has been awaiting the woman in his dreams who promised to return the sword to him. This story is full of humor, suspense and romance. The characters, both main and supporting, are vibrant and fully developed, and the story truly draws you into the carefully crafted world the author has created. I loved these characters and the author’s writing style.
Mary McCall’s second book, Highland Captive, includes a brief glimpse of some of the characters from this book.
